It’s 12/12/12. So What?

December 12, 2012 by KChie 2 Comments

Well nothing really, aside from this being the last repeating number date of the century! I partied like it’s 1999 in college in 1999 and survived the Y2K scare of the Millennium that had us thinking all computer systems would shut down on 12/31/1999. I actually spent the Christmas holidays and Wintersession that year in Ghana. If the computers actually did shut down, I figured at least I would be in the sun drinking fresh coconut water and eating mangoes. But come end of January 2000, I was on an aeroplane back to the States to finish my senior year at Swellesley and find out if I had received any acceptance letters into medical school.

Hmmmm!

Then at 02:02:02 (am) on 02/02/02 I was pulling an all-nighter as a second year medical student in an over-heated classroom. It was also my birthday. I unfortunately, did not turn 22 that day but I believe I fibbed and said I did. What’s in a year anyway, right? At that time I realized how special this decade was going to be. 01/01/01, 03/03/03, and so on, and now we are finally at 12/12/12.

I will admit, that I too planned that one of those iconic dates (aside from 02/02/02 my birthday) would mean something for me, something as special as my marriage date. Especially after an unusually warm October day, Sunday 10/10/10, I was strolling through the Public Garden in Boston, though not at 10:10 am and there were a million wedding parties around. Yes, there was just a slight twinge of jealousy. Well, hmmm, here we are and uh, no marriage plans here.

So, I guess I’ll wait until 2/2/22 and have a grand birthday party then, insha’Allah!

THE PURPLE MANGO PANDEMONIUM

A lover of mangoes. A woman - smart, without pretense, lefthanded, Afropolitan - navigating this thing called life. An unapologetic believer in social justice and karma. Choosing to radiate positive energy and be true to myself. Here, my musings.
