Afe Hyia Pa

January 1, 2007 by KChie 4 Comments

Afe Hyia Pa translates into “Happy New Year”. The response is “Afe nko mmeto yen” which means something like, “may another year come and meet us”.

Watch Night was interesting. We were late, getting there around 11 pm. Service started at 9 pm. They were well underway with their sermons & prayers though. There was no real countdown. Just the pastor feverishly preaching and saying “2006 is going away, 2006 is going away, 2007 is coming” over and over. When he finally got to “2007 is here” it was already 12:30 am in the new year. Talk about tardiness. But it was good. People, I started the year in church with prayers OK?!

Then came the partying. Unlike the club hopping experience of the day before, we only went to one happening spot – Monte Carlo – welcome to paradise!! They must have made a killing that night because it was packed and the drinks were flowing. Nii abandoned me, therefore leaving me open to lots of advances from different men. I had fun people! We left at 5 am. That’s when clubs close over here, apparently.

Till the next episode!

sorry, no pics. you are just going to have to beleive me. We tried going this past weekend, but the scene was dead – at like 4 clubs. I guess the holidays are over, so Ghanaians are back to worrying over work and money. Too bad. The lesson then is party like crazy during Christmas & New Years – especially since that’s the time Ghanaians from abroad come back too to have a good time. hint. hint.

THE PURPLE MANGO PANDEMONIUM

A lover of mangoes. A woman - smart, without pretense, lefthanded, Afropolitan - navigating this thing called life. An unapologetic believer in social justice and karma. Choosing to radiate positive energy and be true to myself. Here, my musings.
